Reduce, reuse, and recycle

A Conversation About Sustainable Living | Zero Waste

According to a group of independent scientific experts from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, there is a 95% probability that human activities over the next 60 years will warm our planet significantly that both our lands and oceans will be uninhabitable. That is why it is important to know about sustainable living.

With a vast majority of wildlife going into extinction, it can feel that we too have a deadline on our planet. However, based on a report from the United Nations General Assembly, we have about 11 years left to prevent irreversible damage to the current climate change crisis.

One of the ways we can do our part in saving our planet is to practice sustainable living daily. Having a green lifestyle is vital to preserving the world we want to live in.  One of the easiest ways to do this is by reducing our own waste production at home.

Living a Zero-Waste Lifestyle does not necessarily mean that we should cut-off our daily consumption. Instead, we should make a more conscious decision in the products or services we use in our day-to-day lives.

Some of the benefits of switching to a zero-waste lifestyle are:

  1. Reducing our impact on climate change

The U.S. Environment Protection Agency reports that an estimated 42% of all greenhouse gas emissions are caused by the production and use of goods, including food, products and packaging. By reducing, reusing, and recycling we will be able to conserve energy and dramatically reduce our own carbon emissions.

  3. Help conserve resources to reduce pollution

In today’s world, our culture of consumption is found to be unsustainable. Whether it is drilling for oil, utilizing fossil-fuel energy to power our homes, or even using and disposing of our PPEs. Extracting raw materials from natural spaces requires large amounts of energy, and causes pollution due to the waste extracted from such materials.
A zero waste approach puts pressure on both companies and consumers to conserve natural resources, utilize products or services that will last, and minimize our impact on our planet’s pollution crisis.

  5. Promotes social equity that helps build communities

By reducing our waste disposal and consumption, we are allowing our surrounding communities to heal from the pollution made in their areas. Consequently, helping them to build neighborhoods that will last through future generations.

  7. Helps support a local circular economy to create jobs

As they say, one person’s “waste” is another’s treasure or resource for something new. By creating a norm for a zero-waste lifestyle, resources and services are recirculated through our economy instead of being used once and then disposed of, or destroyed. In turn, this helps create more jobs that are not only sustainably centered, but also has a lasting impact on our planet.

Here at Buskowitz, we believe that sustainability and sustainable living is the true bottom line. By doing our part in reducing carbon emissions and other electric wastes, we are able to fully utilize the advantages of living a zero-waste lifestyle.
